Ooh, I've never been to Charlie Brown Farms but that could be a beautiful hour drive through the Angeles National Forest. I've had Hadley Fruit Orchards' date shakes and they are incredible. Will keep this in mind next time I'm craving one.
There's a great article today in the LA Times by a fellow who drove the entire length of Route 66, finding a lot of surprisingly great stuff along the way (unfortunately the article is behind a paywall).
I honestly don't mind paywalls as much as I used to. I'm really rooting for newspapers to find a way to survive and I hope they keep finding people who want to pay them to publish. Writers, journalists, editors, and other people in print news deserve to make a living.

Interesting how the desert seem to attract booms and scams. Me, I’ve always wanted to drive down Rte 66, 100 years old this year.

That's absolutely the best way to look at it!
Great roundup, Lisa! I always enjoy stopping in Baker for the alien jerky.
I had to promise Ricky that Charlie Brown's would have even more jerky flavors so we wouldn't have to stop in Baker.
Loved that trip. Still buzzing about it. Thanks for checking behind the question marks we had while driving. Fascinating stuff.
