First: Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose
Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose just showed up on Amazon Prime, and since I’d been curious about it – being familiar with its lead characters and the real case (also known as “the Dalby Spook”) it was based on – I checked it out.
It’s an oddity both artistically and financially, since it was in part crowd-funded (note the “in part” part – as usual with most films these days, it seems like a large percent of its running time is taken up by logos for all the various production companies behind it). As written and directed by Adam Sigal, it takes place in 1937, when parapsychologist Nandor Fodor (Simon Pegg) and his assistant Ann (Minnie Driver) are called to the Isle of Man to investigate claims of talking mongoose named Gef. This odd occurrence has already been reported on by Harry Price (Christopher Lloyd), who noted that the Davis family where Gef seems to reside has a teenage daughter who is also a skilled ventriloquist.
